FAQ

product questions

What makes MiLa soup dumplings different than other frozen soup dumplings?

A bunch of things! First and foremost, our dumplings are crafted with the same authentic flavors and high-quality ingredients you’d find in a restaurant. They’re made in facilities that we own ourselves, meaning we have full control over every step of the process. Our dumplings are flash-frozen while raw, so when we ship them to your door you actually cook them yourself, as opposed to reheating pre-cooked frozen food. That means super-fresh, juicy dumplings straight from steamer to table in 11 minutes flat.

Where are your food products made?

Our soup dumplings are crafted every day in our factory just outside of Seattle, and our noodles and sauces are made in Monterey Park, CA. We send weekly shipments to our dumpling depots around the country in order to offer 1-2 day shipping to our customers in other states.

I have allergies, can I eat MiLa products?

Food safety is our number one priority at MiLa. We take extra measures to ensure that our products are free of allergens not stated in the ingredients statement and cross-contamination.

All MìLà products, except the Sichuan Dan Dan Noodle / Ground Pork and the Sichuan Dan Dan Noodle / Impossible™ Pork Made From Plants, contain no nut/peanut allergens. However, some products are processed in a facility that also processes nuts/allergens.

shipping delivery

When will I get my MiLa package?

We mainly ship Monday through Wednesday (and occasionally Thursday, depending on your location) to prevent carrier delays and melted dumplings over the weekend. Please allow a few business days for your order to process. Once processed and shipped, your order will be in transit with the carrier for 1-2 days. You will receive a shipping confirmation email once your order has been shipped. Shipping days and times are subject to change, and shipping dates are dependent upon recipient location. If you have any questions about your order, please contact our customer service team.

Where do you ship?

We currently ship nationwide to the continental U.S. Shipping is free on orders over $99. Orders going to Hawaii and Alaska will have a $50 shipping fee regardless of total order amount.

How do my dumplings and noodles stay frozen in transit?

We use dry ice (20 lbs in the summer, 10 lbs at other times) and insulated liners to ensure our products stay frozen when shipped to you. We are proud to offer a Melt-Free Guarantee — if your dumplings or noodles arrive melted, our team will replace them free of charge. Simply send us a photo of your bag of melted soup dumplings or noodles and your order number.

Why is shipping so expensive?

The cost of shipping frozen food is extremely high due to the weight and cost of dry ice and frozen goods. We work very hard to bring costs down, and ship for free on all orders above $99. We hope to be able to reduce our shipping costs in the future.

I live in Seattle Metro, can I pick-up instead?

Yes! We love local customers. You can order online and pick up at our Bellevue restaurant Xiao Chi Jie at 278 106th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004. We’re open every day from 11am - 8pm.

Can I cancel my order?

Please get in touch with our customer service team to review your order details. It may be too late to cancel an order, but we can work with you to reschedule the shipment instead.

My dumplings melted during transit, what do I do?

We are proud to offer a Melt-Free Guarantee. If your dumplings arrived melted or stuck together please take a picture of the product and contact our customer service team with your order number for a replacement, free of charge. Do not consume or refreeze dumplings that have been melted.

cooking questions

Why is there no soup in my soup dumplings?

There are a few possible culprits here. Overcooking dumplings can cause the soup inside to evaporate. But if they’re left to cool for too long, the gelatin in the soup will solidify. Or, there may be a hole or leak in the dumplings, though we try to avoid these! Here are some helpful tips and tricks for steaming the perfect soup dumpling from our culinary director.

Why are my soup dumplings deflated?

Where are my steamer liners?

We place folded steamer liners inside of every bag of soup dumplings. If you can’t find them, look toward the bottom—they may have shifted during transit.

What does MìLà mean?

MìLà means honey (mi 蜜) and spice (la 辣) in Chinese. Growing up as third-culture kids, we never quite fit neatly into the Chinese or the American mold. MìLà is an opportunity to capture both the sweet and the spicy sides of our identity. As we’ve grown, we’ve thought a lot about having a name that can grow with us as we expand our offerings beyond Chinese street food classics. We believe that transitioning into MìLà captures the spirit of our story and gives us room to grow, and hopefully you’ll agree!
